Naming

The application process requires you to provide three proposed affiliate names in order of preference.

We will approve the first available name on that list. If none of the proposed names are available, our team will work with you to arrive at a suitable choice. Keep in mind that we consider several factors when approving affiliate names including but not limited to: pending applications, names similar to an existing affiliate name, and the general guidelines below.

No continents, countries, provinces, regions, states, counties, large cities, religious references, movie names, celebrity names, personal names, brokerage names, trademarked names (that you do not own), government agencies, or names that are already taken.

If a geographic area has more than 500,000 in population, you must choose a 2nd signifier (ie: GRID Phoenix South, GRID West LA, GRID NYC Capital).

All proposed names must have the word “GRID” in it.

Here are some tips to think about when choosing a name:

1. When you choose a name, you choose an identity. Think of something that will resonate with you and your community members. It can be geographic, psychographic, business brand-oriented, or a combo of the above.

2. You may have a hyperlocal location in your name as long as it's not considered a large city/state/county and hasn't been taken by another group.

3. You may only include trademarked names that you own the trademark rights to.

4. You may use a combo of location and other words (we recommend keeping it concise as possible).

5. Have fun! Your name doesn’t have to be super serious. This is YOUR community, your vibe, your tribe.
